Bach Flower Remedies

’Healing with the clean, pure, beautiful agents of nature is surely the one method of all which appeals to most of us.’ ~ Dr Edward Bach

Bach Flower Remedies were discovered by Dr Edward Bach in the 1930s – a medical doctor and homeopath. He abandoned his successful career in medicine to seek a natural solution to healing in nature herself. Dr Bach, who was naturally intuitive, had loved nature ever since childhood and was in tune with it. The result, after many years of toil and searching, was a SIMPLE system of remedies, which would help people get better and has indeed done so for decades now.

Edward Bach was born in 1886 in Moseley, near Birmingham, England.  His childhood was beset with ill health, but he overcame this and, after working in his father’s brass foundry, commenced his medical training. He felt privileged and happy to embark on this career, which he considered to be a necessary step to finding a profound method of healing for people.

Often along with his assistant, friend and professional companion, Nora Weeks, he travelled extensively in England and Wales to find flowers suitable for remedy making.  He devoted many hours to perfecting the system.  His book explains the indications for each remedy – ‘The Twelve Healers and other Remedies’.
He also wrote to philosophical booklets ‘Heal Thyself’ and ‘Free Thyself’.

Shortly after finding the last remedy, he knew his life’s work was complete.  He passed away in his sleep, but his legacy of the Bach Flower Remedies lives on and the system is known worldwide.

There are 38 different remedies in the complete system of Bach Flower Remedies, each one being linked to a different EMOTION.  Additionally, the emergency mix, (known as ‘Rescue Remedy’™).

Some of the 38 remedies are:

  • STAR OF BETHLEHEM for times of distress; shock or grief or loss.
  • MIMULUS to help ease fear of ‘worldly things’, as Dr Bach put it.  ‘Illness, pain, accidents, poverty, of being alone…’.*
  • LARCH helps boost confidence – for those ‘who expect failure’.*
  • ELM for those who feel overwhelmed by a difficult job.

* Quoted from ‘The Twelve Healers and Other Remedies’ by Dr E Bach

The remedies are available from the Bach Centre, homeopathic pharmacies, health food shops and Amazon.

‘The individual is treated, and as he becomes well, the disease goes, having been cast off by the increase in health.’ ~ Dr Edward Bach
